The White Trellis

I spotted this old decaying wall at New Harmony, IN. I was captivated by the textures and colors. I snapped several photos and when I got back to my studio I painted this one.     Click here to see video of me painting this watercolor. [...]

Ice Follies Tulips

While painting in New Harmony, IN I came across this incredible tulip bed. It lined a front yard along the main road leading into town. There were tulips of all colors, but these really caught my eye. I'd never seen any like them before. I loved the scarlet stripe that adorned each petal.   Painting $55 / Shipping $10 Domestic [...]

Oh, The Places You'll Go

One of two paintings done as a gift for a client. The client is an avid mandolin player and loves to travel to different venues, hence the stickers on the case. [...]

A Gentle Glow

The title represents what I was trying to capture in this painting. I love musical instruments and the unique characteristics each one has. This mandolin has such a beautiful warmth to it. The warm orange against the deep browns around the edges has a tremendous appeal. [...]

Freddie - Achilles Tang

An unusual venture for me, this painting took me into an area of unfamiliarity. Painting fish under water is quite different from painting any other subject. My goal in this work was to capture the subtleties of color as well as the softening properties of the water. Another task was to represent the fish as floating in the water rather than being stuck there or attached to the coral. This is one of those paintings that photography can't justify. To view it in person gives a totally different perspective.   This work was commissioned by a local client. [...]

The Blue Bridge

Located over a creek behind the New Harmony Inn, New Harmony, IN, this intensely blue bridge seems almost out of place against the bright spring greens. Many of the artists painting in the vicinity of this bridge suggested this looked very much like something Monet would have painted. The color was unusual. My painting doesn't capture it, but the color was a very bright aqua. It was extremely windy and chilly the day I painted this. I sought refuge inside the glass pool house. Outside it was rainy, very windy and about 50 degrees. Inside it was balmy and probably 85 [...]

Granary Street, New Harmony, IN

This painting was done on location in front of the Granary in New Harmony, IN. I recently began evaluating my style of painting and am working intentionally to modify it....just a bit. An artist has always got to be stretching himself or he quits growing. This is one of the first works that I tried to "loosen up" a bit. I hope you enjoy it and I'd love to hear your thoughts comparing this to my other works.   [...]

White Squirrel

Many may be surprised to know that white squirrels do exist and they are not a mutation. They breed and reproduce. In fact they are endangered because they breed with gray squirrels thus creating hybrids that are no longer pure white with red eyes. White squirrels can be found in many locations, but one of the best known is Olney, IL. [...]
